What I am leaving with you is shalom — I am giving you My shalom. I don’t give the way the world gives. Don’t let yourselves be upset or frightened. John 14:27 Complete Jewish Bible
If you have been with us any length of time you know about the word or at least know of the word ‘Shalom’. It graces the end of every post and is a greeting and a goodbye of sorts. If you have never heard of the word shalom and do not know what it means lets catch you up. According to Strong’s Concordance 7965 Shalom means completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord. Shalom means to be complete, perfect and full. In modern Hebrew the obviously related word Shelem means to pay for, and Shulam means to be fully paid. So now you can see what a great and multi faceted word the word ‘shalom’ is. By our opening text your can also see that you were not given just any type of shalom. Jesus said, “I am giving you MY SHALOM! The same completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony and absence of agitation or discord that I have and had while I was here on the Earth. Let me ask you a question. Have you ever read anywhere in the Bible where Jesus was frantic or scared and in fear? Have you ever seen Jesus concerned about not having enough? No! When there appeared to be not enough or even anything at all Jesus created it. Guess what? YOU CAN TOO!!! Look at something else Jesus said when talking about shalom.
I don’t give the way the world gives. Don’t let yourselves be upset or frightened. John 14:27 Complete Jewish Bible
Jesus does not give the way the world gives. How does the world give? Miserly, or in fear. Concerned that you don’t get more or the same as them. Jesus is not like that. This is why He gave you HIS SHALOM. The same shalom He has. He wanted you to have the same peace, the same joy, the same prosperity that He Himself enjoys and not a lesser version. The Father’s whole goal in sending Jesus is to make you ONE with Himself and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. He came that you might have LIFE and have it in SUPER ABUNDANCE. So what do you have to do to obtain this life? As with anything of God’s it takes faith which simply means believing and receiving. Receiving is the greek words lambano and it means ‘to take’. If someone were to say, “Hey I am giving you a $100 and then stick a hundred dollar bill in your face, what would you do? If you have good sense you will TAKE IT and say THANK YOU!! The same thing with the things of God. You find out in The Word what is yours and what has already been given or offered to you and you take it. Jesus said, “I am giving you MY SHALOM.” Now some people or even preachers would tell you that you have to obey all the commandments or others would say, have you been living right and do you have a sinless life in terms of ALL your actions and the answer would be no for them and no for you. This shalom is not based on what you do or don’t do. It’s based on what HE HAS DONE! If that were the case the disciples would not have qualified either. They were running in fear when Jesus was taken. Fear is sin. They were arguing about who was the greatest among them. That’s pride and pride is sin. Jesus had to rebuke them at some point. Yet this did not stop Jesus from giving them His Shalom and it won’t stop Him from giving it to you. So don’t disqualify yourself when Jesus has qualified you.
This is the real topic today. If you look back at that definition of Shalom from the Strong’s Concordance you will notice something at the very end. It says, “In modern Hebrew the obviously related word Shelem means to pay for, and Shulam means to be fully paid.” Shalom comes from the root word shulam which means to be fully paid. What that means is that all those things that shalom means have already been fully paid for by your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ if you are born again. That means that completeness has been paid for. Your prosperity had been paid for. You cannot qualify for it because it’s a GRACE GIFT. Grace is unearned, unmerited, undeserved favor born out of The Father’s Love for you. Imagine walking on to the Honda car lot to buy the new 2016 Honda Pilot. You pick out the one you want and then go to the booth for financing and the salesman says, “Oh we just need you to sign a couple of papers because someone else saw you and paid for the car for you.” The only thing left for you to do is receive and say thank you if the person is still around. The same thing applies to SHALOM!! Receive all the benefits of HIS SHALOM today and everyday.
All the ‘blessed’ to you!!! Shalom!
