JUST DA TRUTH – ABOUT BE KIND TO THE UNTHANKFUL

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!  I am sure many of you will all be gathering with family and friends today.  Some of you may even take the time to go around the table and ask  what each person is thankful for.  God the Father really loves it when we are thankful.  It gives him great joy.  But what about the unthankful? How does God the Father feel about them and better still how does he treat these unthankful, ungrateful people?

I am sure the title makes you want to quote Gary Coleman from Different Strokes. “Whatchu talkin’ bout Willis? I know what you mean. But look at this scripture…..

But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for He (God the Father) is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Luke 6:35 King James Version

Wow!!  God is kind to the unthankful and the evil.  The people who blaspheme His Name, say He does not exist, and think His Name is a compound word with damn. God the Father is kind to them. So how are we suppose to be with them?

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; Ephesians 5:1 New American Standard Version

The Father does not want us to be like the world. The world responds to people with the law based thinking and responses. “You treat me bad, I’m gonna treat you bad.” That is the law all day.  But look at The Father.  Now understand, for you The Father does not see your sin, or acting ugly because of Jesus’s Blood.  But for sinners He sees their ugliness and ungratefulness and evil and is still kind to them.  The word kind there is the greek word chréstos.  It means to be useful, pleasant, gentle and kind, one that furnishes what is suitable.  We have a great Father and a great God and a great Lord in Jesus Christ.  Jesus operated and functioned this way and because of it religious people called him a “friend of sinners” in the Bible.  May you have that same title and accusation for the glory of God and the increase of the Kingdom.  Not to go out and be like them but to be a light and win them to Christ.

The Word of God is constantly admonishing us to be good to others whether they are good or evil.  THIS IS GRACE.  God was good to us when we were only evil.  While we were yet sinners He loved us and sent His Son to die for us.  When people treat us good it is very easy to be good and nice to them.  But it takes the love of Christ to be kind and loving and courteous to someone who has mistreated and dogged you.  But we can do all things through Christ which strengthens us.  Jesus would not tell us to do something and not give us the power, strength and will to do it.  I will share a rarely known scripture with you that when I found it I was like, “Who then can be saved?”  But I have kept it in my mind and heart for years and I am getting better and better at it especially since learning about GRACE.

Remind people to be submissive to [their] magistrates and authorities, to be obedient, to be prepared and willing to do any upright and honorable work,

To slander or abuse or speak evil of no one, to avoid being contentious, to be forbearing (yielding, gentle, and conciliatory), and to show unqualified courtesy toward everybody. Titus 3:1-2 Amplified Bible

Man this is a tall order in the natural.  We live in a mostly critical, negative-minded world.  That scripture says to slander or abuse or speak evil of no one.  But the part that punched me in the kidneys was the last part.  To show unqualified courtesy toward everybody.  Yes you read it right, it said EVERYBODY!!!  Do you understand what this means?  This means that the person who does not qualify for courtesy is the person The Word says you are to show courtesy to.  Trying chewing on that this weekend.  The rude person that steps in front of you at the mall.  The car that cuts you off in traffic.  When your husband or wife says something a little edgy, respond with courtesy.  I can tell you I just flunked that test in times past with my wife.  Thank God for His GRACE.

So your challenge is to be kind to the unthankful and the evil and to show unqualified courtesy to EVERYONE.  If you can do it great!! If you miss it, keep meditating that Word and get up and go for it again.  Trust me, unthankful, evil and discourteous people are not going anywhere just yet so you will have plenty of opportunity.  So step up to the challenge!  The key is let Christ do it through you.  His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

All the “blessed” to you!!! Shalom!
