And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you. Joshua 3:5 King James Version

Imagine after years of waiting to finally get to a place you have been trying to get to when suddenly an insurmountable obstacle appears to block your path,…. yet again.  This is how the children of Israel probably felt as the only thing that now blocked them from going into the Promised Land was a raging Jordan river.  The river itself was formidable but it was now harvest time and at harvest time the river swelled to even higher levels than normal, making it that much more challenging.  But they had a leader who listened to and heard from God and they received a very specific instruction which you see in the scripture above.  Now understand that this is in the Old Testament so they had to perform ritualistic ceremonies such as bathing themselves and making sure they were free from any known sins as well as abstaining from having sexual relations with their spouses.  Why? Because God was coming in the midst of them and His presence could cause death in the midst of a careless attitude of sin and other impurity.

Thankfully you and I do not have to be concerned about such symbolic things or be fearful of the presence of our Father since we are born again.  This is not to persuade one towards a careless attitude towards our Father and our God but you should know that as a New Testament believer you do not need to sanctify your self because Jesus’s Blood and His finished work on the cross has taken care of that for you.  Don’t take my word for it, take The Word for it.

It is because of God that you are in union with the Messiah Jesus, who for us has become wisdom from God, as well as our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.  I Corinthians 1:30 International Standard Version

This scripture proves that you are sanctified not in and of yourself but Christ has become our wisdom, our righteousness, our sanctification and our redemption.  And since you are righteous and sanctified you are not only welcomed in God’s presence  ALL THE TIME but you are seated in Heavenly places with Christ Jesus.  The Father looks over to the right and sees you in Jesus.  So unlike the children of Israel you don’t have to wait until tomorrow.  You can believe and receive WONDERS and miracles right now!!!  Did you know that everytime you see “My God” in the Bible it means miracle working God?  Our Father is a miracle working God.  If He will perform miracles for anyone it would be US.

We have a better covenant than the children of Israel.  When the raging, swelling Jordan stood and blocked the way to the Promised Land, God had the priest step first into the Jordan with the Ark of Covenant on their shoulders which represented God’s presence and the river backed up like a dam into a wall on both sides and the bottom of the river bed became dry ground.  The children of Israel then walked across what looked like a hindering river and on dry ground until every last one of them was safely on the other side. In the New Testament Jesus told HIs disciples to go the other side and after they got into the boat to do so a raging storm came up and appeared as if it would not only keep them from the other side but also destroy them in the process.  But they had something better than the Ark of the Covenant which was simply a shadow of things to come.  They had Jesus Himself with them and He arose from sleep rebuked the storm and they all went safely to the other side.

Jesus is with us!! We are sanctified because and through Him!!  He will work wonders amongst and in us and through us.  He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert for us.  Have a mind and heart of constant expectancy towards and in Him for deliverance from each and every situation that is contrary to The Father’s purpose and plan for your life. This is Bible HOPE which is a good opinion of God and a constant expectation of only good.

All the ‘blessed’ to you!!! Shalom!
