JUST DA TRUTH – ABOUT SHALOM

“What I am leaving with you is shalom — I am giving you My Shalom. I don’t give the way the world gives. Don’t let yourselves be upset or frightened.  John 14:27 Complete Jewish Bible

Have you ever read in the King James Version of the Bible various places where it says and uses the word “peace”.  I want to bring something to your mind.  What if you were watching Jeopardy and the host said, “Please describe the ingredients of a cake?”  Then the person who is playing the game says, “Eggs”.  That’s it!  No flour, no butter.  Well that is the same way it is when a person tries to reduce the word shalom to peace.

According to Strong’s Concordance  Shalom means completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.   According to Strongs there are 14 ingredients in shalom.  To reduce it to one is robbery of the completeness, wholeness, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony and the absence of agitation or discord that Jesus also died and payed for to give you.  Would you buy a house and pay say $250,000 for it and then have the seller say, “Okay here’s the roof.”  You would be asking, “Where is the rest of the house?”  The issue is that the English language does not have the words to describe the fullness of the Hebrew and Greek language.  So many times words are reduced to half their meaning or even sometimes a totally different meaning.

“What I am leaving with you is shalom — I am giving you My Shalom. I don’t give the way the world gives. Don’t let yourselves be upset or frightened. John 14:27 Complete Jewish Bible

In this scripture Jesus is telling His disciples (AND YOU) what He is leaving them (YOU) with.  And then He clarifies it even further by telling them not only is He leaving them with shalom but He is giving them His Shalom.  The very same completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord that He Himself had while He was here.  Why? Two reasons.  He no longer needed it for where He was going and they did because they were staying here on Earth.  There is no incompleteness in Heaven.  There is no agitation or discord in Heaven.  So Jesus did not need Shalom there.  On Earth there is all kinds of discord and other issues.  Jesus knew this.

“I have said these things to you so that, united with me, you may have shalom. In the world, you have tsuris(trouble). But be brave! I have conquered the world!”  John 16:33 Complete Jewish Bible

So Jesus knew there would be things on the Earth that would try to challenge us and He left us His Shalom so that we could calmly handle every situation the exact same way that He did. In complete and total SHALOM!!!  I will leave you with this prayer from Paul.

Now may the Lord of Shalom Himself give you His Shalom always in all ways. The Lord be with all of you.               2 Thessalonians 3:16 Complete Jewish Bible

Be sure to receive “His Shalom!!!” Amen!!!

All the “blessed” to you!!! Shalom!

  1. The complete meaning of Shalom thrills me! I will ponder all of those meanings today. And write them down where I can see them. Thank you, Vincent.

Blessings and SHALOM! (Hmm..they may mean the same, too 😉 )
