And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:18 New Living Translation
Imagine something for a moment. What if you were in a relationship with someone and you had known of them for years. You knew this and that about the person. You knew some of their likes and dislikes. But let’s say after 20 years both of you were out at a restaurant together and you both ran into someone who knew your friend, say an old friend. Your friend greets the old friend and then introduces them to you. Since they are alone they ask the old friend to join you both at your table. As the dinner progresses you all began to talk and laugh and speak of old times and different situations. The old friend begins to share different things about your friend that you never knew. Things that they like, different trade crafts they had or have but have not been using while with you. Your response may be, “I had no idea you could do that or I had no idea you enjoyed this or that!” As the old friend and your friend continue to go on, you become quiet and just begin to listen as you realize that this old friend knows your friend better than you do. They have or had a different relationship. Not a romantic or sexual relationship but a deeper one.
At that time you realize that you are familiar with your friend but that person is or has been intimate with them. Most time when people think of intimacy they automatically think of sex but that is not really intimacy. Intimacy is openness, sharing, caring tenderness. Intimacy is a trust and a dependency. A covenant relationship if you will. What’s your point Vincent? My point is when you allow only a minister or TV evangelist to teach you The Word you miss out on The Teacher Himself teaching you personally. Perhaps this is the extent of your knowledge of The Word and all of your ministry is received in this manner. While it is a good thing to attend church and hear The Word and listen to ministers by way of TV, or the internet or other mediums, it will never compare or fulfill you like spending time with The Word yourself. You will be familiar with Jesus Who is The Word. You will know His name and hear about some of the things He did and can do but it won’t be personal and intimate to you. If that kind of surface relationship continues there WILL BE things that you will never find out until you get to Heaven about Jesus and The Father. The Father never designed for you to have a familiar or partial relationship with Him and Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Intimacy was always His plan. You see this in the garden of Eden when God the Father came down in the cool of the day to talk with Adam and Eve. He has never changed. This is a big reason why God found fault with the Old Testament. He could not be close enough to His people by being in a box or the Ark. No He wanted to be with them and in them and through the finished work of Christ He has now achieved the means to do so. Knowing Jesus personally and intimately is ETERNAL LIFE!
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. I John 5:11 NIV
Get to know Him for yourself. Don’t be content with a familiar relationship but pursue and intimate one.
All the ‘blessed’ to you!!! Shalom!
