This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him. John 2:11 KJV
Many people are familiar of the story where Jesus attended a wedding and while there, the people hosting the wedding ran out of wine. Jesus prompted by the faith of His mother in Him, supplied them with an over abundance of wine. As a matter of fact after studying it is said that they were supplied with 135 imperial gallons or 600 liters. That’s a lot of wine. God is not the God of just enough, He is the God of more than enough, every time, all the time. Our focus today is on how Jesus did this “beginning of miracles”. There is something called the law of first mention and when you see something first mentioned in the Bible you should pay close attention to it as it sets precedent and contains secrets or foundational pieces for how other things, in this case miracles are done. I want you to pay close attention to the words in our opening text “beginning of miracles”.
The word beginning there is the Greek word arche. Let’s take a look at the meaning of that word. That word arche means:
- 1) beginning, origin
- 2) the person or thing that commences, the first person or thing
in a series, the leader
- 3) that by which anything begins to be, the origin, the active cause
It also means a commencement, something that is chief (in various applications of order, time, place or rank)
If you were at a wedding with a friend today or then, and you needed more wine, you would have one or two choices. 1) Go buy some more from someone who has it. 2) Go and grow more grapes to create more which would take close to 20 years or more which is not feasible. They desired wine now. In many ways this was a miracle of convenience because they had wine they just desired more. The worst that could happen was they had to tell the guest, “We have no more wine!”, then suffer some embarrasment. In the natural and based on religious mindsets it seems highly unlikely that Jesus would perform His beginning of miracles in this setting especially after He told his mother, “It was not His time to manifest in His glory.” His mother’s faith in Him to do something is what pushed “His time” from later to NOW! Faith is always now!!! Faith is not bound by time, space, matter or a certain order. I believe this is what the Holy Spirit desires ALL believers to see, know and learn from this beginning or origin of miracles.
Jesus did not make good wine by using any of these four natural and normal elements:
- TIME: Good wine naturally or normally takes 20, 30, 40 or even 50 years to produce.
- SPACE: Wine is not made in a pot, it is made in a vineyard.
- MATTER: Wine is naturally made from the matter of grapes, not water,
- ORDER: The natural order for making wine is: Plant seeds, grow the vines, wait for grapes, gather grapes, crush grapes, get juice, bottle it, ferment it then transport to wedding.
These keys in the first or beginning miracle of Jesus contain a notice for us today. When you are believing God for a miracle be sure to not lock Him or box Him into having to do it in a certain time, place or space, way or natural order. He does not have to do the in between steps. He can skip right thru to the end result with no respect or regard for time, space, matter or natural order.
Jesus operated and functioned in His God given dominion and authority (the same dominion given to man in Genesis 1:26) over time, space, matter and order and so can you thru Him Who strengthens you. As believers, even we have been programmed by the world system that you cannot control time, space or matter and that things have to be done in a certain order for them to work. This is not truth! But if you believe it is true you will live your life bound by time, space, matter and doing things in the natural order when Jesus has provided for you to walk on water, turn water into wine, travel by being transported and many other miracles you see in the Bible. But of all the miracles you see this one is the beginning or origin of miracles and it contains a lesson and secrets of the mysteries of the Kingdom which are hidden and have been revealed now for you.
If you are still having trouble believing this about yourself take a look at Jesus’s own words to you.
“Timeless truth, I tell you: ‘whoever believes in Me, those works which I have done he will also do, and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to the presence of My Father.’ ” John 14:21 Aramaic Bible in Plain English
He said this is a ‘timeless truth’. That means it’s still true TODAY!!!
All the blessed to you. Shalom!!!
