Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. Hebrews 4:1 King James Version
Isn’t it amazing how many times that God the Father and Jesus tell us in the Old and New Testament to “FEAR NOT!?” It makes you wonder then why The Holy Ghost would then in this one scripture tell us ‘to fear’. This must be a BIG DEAL! So this scripture tells us to fear least a promise being left us of entering into His Rest, we should seem to come short. This rest, or His Rest must be a really BIG DEAL. I know I said that twice but I want it to sink in. Why does Poppa want us to rest? Because that is what He is doing. He wants us to do what He Himself is doing and allow the Holy Spirit to do what needs to be done thru us.
4We know it is ready because of the place in the Scriptures where it mentions the seventh day: “On the seventh day God rested from all his work.” Hebrews 4:4 New Living Translation
So God the Father is resting and He has also told Jesus to have a seat with Him as well.
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? Matthew 22:44 King James Version
Since Jesus has done the work for us our only job is to believe. When we allow His finished work to rule our lives we can then rest. Jesus described the only work God the Father desires from us.
Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the One He has sent.” John 6:29 New Living Translation
When we believe the finished work of Christ, that we are righteous by His works and not our own performance, this causes us to walk in the work that the Father already prepared for us to do instead of trying to come up with our own plan. Now The Father is doing the work thru you.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 NIV
So we find out that rest is not inactivity but already prepared, Spirit – led activity. Since the works are finished its almost like sticking a DVD into the player and pressing play. You don’t have to go and make the movie to watch the movie you just rest and enjoy it. This is what you do with The Lord. You rest and trust Him to lead and guide you into the peace, grace and shalom He has already prepared and given you. Stay with us all this week as we find out more about His Rest.
All the ‘blessed’ to you!!! Shalom!
