Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. Hebrews 4:1 King James Version
We have learned much about His Rest all this week. It is the Father’s desire as well as my desire that you have a greater desire and inspiration to make sure you enter into this rest. Knowing that it belongs to you is key as is knowing the truth. Jesus said that the truth that you know is what makes you free. Free from worry. Free from fear. Free from anxiety. The ability to live free all provided by this rest thru Jesus’s finished work. Lets look at another key element of rest.
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. Romans 5:1 NIV
Since we have been justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. That word peace in that scripture is the Greek word eirene. But I want to take it a bit further because the Hebrew meaning of that word is the word shalom. Shalom is one of my favorite multifaceted words. Shalom means completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord. As you can see rest is included in shalom along with a host of other good things. Lets look at another scripture regarding shalom from Jesus Himself.
“What I am leaving with you is shalom — I am giving you my shalom. I don’t give the way the world gives. Don’t let yourselves be upset or frightened. John 14:27 Complete Jewish Bible
So here you have a scripture where Jesus Himself clearly states that He has left you shalom which includes rest. In addition He is not just leaving you any shalom. He has given you HIS SHALOM. So this means that the same completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord that Jesus Himself had while He was here on Earth is what He has turned around and given to each and every believer who will know it, believe it and receive it. This shalom enabled Jesus to remain calm while people tried to push Him off of a cliff. The shalom enabled Jesus to sleep while a storm was going on in a boat and it was filling up with water. This shalom enabled Jesus to take five loaves and two fish and feed an entire group of people with 5000 men not counting women and children.
My point is that rest is powerful and it enables you to carry out The Father’s plan for you allowing you to walk and enjoy His finished work while you are resting. Take sometime this weekend and think about that and become fully persuaded to live a life in His Rest.
All the blessed to you!!! Shalom!
