And he blessed and he broke and he said, “Take eat; this is my body, which is broken for your persons; thus you shall do for my Memorial. I Corinthians 11:24 Aramaic Bible in Plain English
Many of you may be familiar with this scripture but I want to share something new and fresh about it that you may know but I just learned a few weeks ago while studying. One of the great aspects of The Word of God is that it is eternally pregnant and for us birthing greater and greater revelations by way of the Holy Spirit as we spend time in The Word. So as we in the USA celebrate Memorial’s Day and the men and women who have died while serving this great country of ours, we as believers should also allow our minds to turn toward the Ultimate Soilder the Lord Jesus Christ who died not only for a country, but for the entire world past, present and future. The Father gave up His Son and Jesus came willingly to die for all.
The above scripture references Communion and Jesus gave instructions that we are to take and eat for this is His Body. In a later verse he gives a similar instruction about the cup which is His Blood in the New Testament. The part I want us to focus on is “thus you shall do for my Memorial. The King James Version speaks of doing this in remembrance of Me(Jesus). The word remembrance in that verse is a very interesting word with a more interesting meaning. Let’s take a look at it.
The word remembrance in that verse means:
Original Word: ἀνάμνησις, εως, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Phonetic Spelling: (an-am’-nay-sis)
Definition: a recalling, remembrance, memory.
anámnēsis (from 363 /anamimnḗskō, “bring to mind”) – properly, deliberate recollection, done to better appreciate the effects (intended results) of what happened; active, self-prompted recollection especially as a memorial (memorial sacrifice.
- Dead to sin (Not to sinful actions but to sin’s ability to dominate us and bring sickness and disease upon because the law of the Spirit that of the LIFE which is in Christ Jesus HAS made us FREE from the law of sin and death. Everything that has to do with sin and death we are free from this includes the curse, poverty, sickness, lack, and anything else that came as a result of the fall. WE ARE REDEEMED! We have redemption thru His Blood.)
- Dead to the law because Jesus is the end of the law for all who believe.
We are cleansed and HAVE redemption thru His Blood. The Blood is on the mercy seat in Heaven and God no longer sees our sin but sees His sinless Son Who has borne all of our sins past, present and future and that Blood keeps on cleansing us from all unrighteousness. Jesus’s Blood is eternal and that means it operates outside of time, inside of time and beyond time.
I John 1:9 states that Jesus Blood cleanses us from every unrighteousness. Psalms 103:2 tells us to allow our souls to bless and praise the Lord and that one of the ways we do this is by remembering or not forgetting ALL His benefits. So MEMORIAL DAY is everyday for the believer not just one day a year. Be sure to take sometime today and everyday what Jesus’s perfect and ultimate sacrifice has done for you. This will keep you mindful and beat off and away from you discouragement.
All the ‘blessed’ to you. Shalom!!!
