But The Messiah has redeemed us from the curse of The Written Law, and He became a curse in our place, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”, Galatians 3:13 Aramaic Bible in Plain English
REDEMPTION. It is one of the greatest blessings of the New Testament. Do you know what redemption means? Do you know what it really is? Do you know what you are redeemed from? Today we are going to help you answer these questions so that you can walk fully in the redemptive work of Christ Jesus.
The word redeemed comes from the Greek word exagorazó which means to buy up, ransom, to rescue from loss. It is actually two words the first being ek which means “completely out from” which intensifies agorázō which means to “buy-up at the marketplace”) – properly, take full advantage of, seizing a buying-opportunity, i.e. making the most of the present opportunity (recognizing its future gain).
Let’s say you went to a car dealer and you heard they were going to stop selling GM Hummer H2’s (which they have). Let’s say I am a billionaire with a strong affinity for Hummer H2’s and I decide I am going to buy every single H2 on the market that is in production. Once I have done that, if someone shows up who wants to buy a Hummer H2 they cannot get one. Why? Because they have been bought completely off the market. They are no longer available for purchase.
So what does all this have to with you being redeemed? EVERYTHING!!! As a believer you have been bought out of the market completely of sin and death. Romans 6:14 says the sin has no dominion over you because you are not under the law but under grace. Are you still thinking, “So what’s the big deal?” Let’s take sometime then and find out all the things that you are redeemed from. I’m sure after even this incomplete list you will have a different attitude and a greater appreciation for what God the Father has done through Jesus Christ. You may also discover that you have been putting up with some things in various areas of your life and body that Jesus already bore, died, paid and redeemed you from. Now Galatians 3:13 tells us the Christ “has” redeemed us from the curse of the law. But just what is the curse of the law? There is a pretty exhaustive list of the curse of the law in Deuteronomy 28. Lets look at a few. Now don’t get down or discouraged when you read this list as it is pretty bad. Just remember Jesus has redeemed you from all these things.
Deuteronomy 28:19-44 God’s Word Translation
YOU ARE REDEEMED FROM:
- Cursed coming in and going out (v.19)
- Panic, curses and frustration (v.20)
- Diseases, fever and inflammation (v.22)
- Being defeated by your enemies natural and spiritual (v.25)
- Hemorrhoids, sores, and itching that won’t go away (v.27)
- Madness, blindness (v.28)
- Failure- (verse 29 says You won’t be successful in anything you do)
- Oppression and robbery with no saviour or helper (v.29)
- Adultery and cheating spouse (v.30)
- Building a house but not able to live in it and enjoy it (v.30)
- Cars and vehicles and means of transportation being repossessed (v.31)
- Cursed to be driven mad by the things you see (v.34)
- Not able to enjoy the fruit of your labor or hands (v.38)
- Other peoples standard of living going higher and higher while yours goes lower and lower (v.44)
- And the list goes on and on from verse 15 until verse 64. Take the time to read it yourself.
This is a horrible list of things but you are redeemed from them. However, I have said this before but it bears saying again. Is it legal for a person to break in another persons home? No!! But do people still do it? Yes!! Same thing here. You are redeemed from the curse of the law. This is a legal act but if the enemy can get you to take and put up with the curse in ANY area of your life big or small he will do it. And the longer you put up with it you will more than likely become comfortable with it and then it will become a stronghold. When something becomes a stronghold, there are actually areas where you are unconsciously assisting in an issue that you do not really desire. It’s worth it to know all the things you are redeemed from and if you see any traces of them in your life do not get discouraged but boldly declare, “I am redeemed from ______and in the name of Jesus I curse _________ out of my life. Be removed now in Jesus Name. Amen!!!” Believe it.
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; Psalm 107:2 KJV
Do you see how the word so is in italics in the King James Version. That means that the word ‘so’ was not there originally. So after say there is a comma and then the Holy Ghost continues by saying the Lord has redeemed us from the hand of the enemy. So it’s almost like a comma was placed there so you could fill in the blank to ‘say what you are redeemed from’. So don’t put up with ANYTHING that Jesus has already bore for you.
In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace. Ephesians 1:7 New International Version
Know that you HAVE redemption through His blood and the forgiveness of sins so all that is left for you is BLESSING!!! The New Testament has no curse. And as a bonus did you ever notice that Galatians 3 never said Christ has redeemed you from the blessings of the law? Why? Because the blessings are still yours through Christ Jesus. YOU ARE THE REDEEMED!!!
All the ‘blessed’ to you!!! Shalom!!!
