Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, I Peter 2:2 New Living Translation
When a person is a new believer, it is important that they crave PURE spiritual milk so that you can grow. Just like a baby needs milk and the best milk would come directly from their mother, so new believers need and should desire that milk. Pure spiritual milk is the Gospel of Grace not the law. Hankering after the law will lead to condemnation, guilt and a sin consciousness. These things inhibit the believers growth especially the new believer because they encourage an insecurity in the finished work of Christ and eternal salvation.
And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, 10being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. Hebrew 5:9-10 New American Standard Bible
Jesus has obtained for us eternal salvation. Growing and working out that salvation is done by ingesting milk at first then moving over to meat.
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. 2I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able… I Corinthians 3:1-2 New American Standard Bible
The Word of God tells us that those who hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled. Do you realize that as a believer many of the times that you may feel hungry or thirsty in the natural, you very well could simply be hungry for The Word. I encourage you to try it sometines. I know you know when you have not eaten so I am not referring to those times. Times where you feel like you want to eat but you know your not physically hungry, take 15, 20 or 30 mins and go read The Word. As you focus and feed ‘that hunger’ the feeling of natural hunger will subside as well. That milk is necessary and needed for you to grow to maturity in Christ and after you have been in Christ and fed yourself on the milk of The Word for a number of years you should be able to move to solid food.
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. Hebrews 5:12-13 New American Standard Bible
