But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, “Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God’s Book of the Law.”  Galatians 3:10 New Living Translation

If there was someone or something that was stealing from you everyday but you were not aware of it, would you want someone to tell you or would you prefer to continue being robbed?  No one in their right mind wants to be robbed.  And money is the least of all the things we are referring to.  What if there was something you were doing or participating in that may unknowingly be aiding or abetting (assisting) in you being robbed?  Okay enough with the questions, what are you talking about?  I am talking about legalism and self-righteousness.  Legalism is defined as excessive adherence to the law or formula.  It also means dependence on moral law rather than faith.  You may ask, “Faith in what or who?”  For the Christian it is faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work that He has done for you.

For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with Himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law.  Romans 10:3 New Living Translation

So the scripture above says that when people do not know, or understand God’s way of making people right with Himself, they cling to their own way by trying to keep the law.  What law?  The ten commandments and other religious laws made up by man that have nothing to do with righteousness or salvation or God’s way of doing things.  Our opening scripture in Galatians 3:10 says whoever depends on the law or obeying and doing the law to make them right with God is under a curse.  In many churches today the ten commandments is still preached as the go to for right living.  But for 1500 years the law and the commandments were in effect and no one could keep them not David, not Solomon not the prophets.  They were righteous and their sins were covered through the sacrifices of animals like bulls and lambs, until THEE LAMB was brought into the world and slain to cover men’s sins ONCE and FOR ALL.  Once Jesus died, every person’s sin was covered for all time, not just for a year.  Jesus was the perfect Sacrifice.

For He (God the Father) has made him (Jesus), who knew no sin, to be sin for us; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him (Jesus).  2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV

Now this may seem free and inexpensive to us but it cost God His dear Son whom He loved and loves.  This is no light thing.  Jesus took our sins upon him by faith although He never committed one sin and then gave us His standing that He always had and has once again with The Father after He was born again.  Jesus after taking our sins by faith was then able to die(death can only come through sin) and then after The Father saw that Jesus precious and priceless Blood covered our sins and Jesus took all the wrath, anger, sickness, disease, death and punishment upon Him that really was meant for us, The Father then declared our sin debt paid in full and that we were then justified or made righteous because of what Jesus did.

He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.  Romans 4:25 New International Version

If we were not justified or made righteous Jesus could not have been raised because He was raised for our justification.  So you can see how serious and glorious this issue of righteousness is.  Since Jesus has done all this for us, to turn around and act or say, “You know what Jesus I’ll just be righteous on my own by making sure I cross every t and dot every i is really a smack in the face to God and Jesus.  And it puts a believer back under the curse because they are trying to establish their own righteousness instead of accepting what Jesus has already done.  So what does all this have to do with robbery?  Because if you try to live under the law instead of just accepting what Jesus has done for you, the curse will continue to operate in your life and steal health, wealth, peace and whatever else it can from you.  The sad thing is the person behind it is still the enemy, the devil.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10 New International Version.

For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.  Romans 5:17 New Living Translation

He (the devil) is still the same and he is the real source behind the curse and behind getting people to try to live under the law instead of accepting the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.  In another translation that last part reads the gratuity of righteousness.  You have to pay your restaurant bill but the gratuity that you leave is a free gift given by your choice and will.  The gratuity is a reflection of the giver not the receiver.  Righteousness is a gift a gratuity based on the giver, God the Father who loved us when we were unlovable.  He knew we could not fulfill the law and sent Jesus who could and credited His fulfilling the law to our account. We got Jesus’s good and He got our bad.  Since Jesus went through all that He did for us, understand that even when you miss it it does not change your righteous standing because you did not do anything to get the righteousness you received except believe it.  And even the faith you used to do that was from Jesus.  He is the author and finisher of faith.  Don’t worry about comparing yourself to other Christians or preachers or anyone.  Just know you are accepted in the Beloved, Jesus and you have His righteousness FOREVER.

When you depend on that you are depending on grace and the curse will never ever be able to touch you as you keep your confidence and faith in The Truth that ‘you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!!!

All the “blessed” to you!!! Shalom!
