Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Ephesians 6:16 King James Version
Paul in many of his writings made many allusions to soilders and their weapons. In this scripture Paul admonishes believers to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. He then goes on to instruct them to put on the whole armor of God. You can read the scripture yourself but today we are focused on a particular aspect of the 16th verse, the fiery darts. You have probably seen a medieval movie where they are using arrows and other ancient weapons. A fiery dart is an arrow that is dipped in a flammable material and fired at an enemy for the purpose of burning or consuming the enemy’s home, land, animals or to burn up the person themselves. So what does this have to do with you as a believer? Have you ever been just sitting around and then suddenly you just get this evil or ungodly thought? Then right after that this thought comes. “Look at you, thinking that dirty thought. You’re supposed to be a Christian!!! Yes that is very Christ like, Mr. or Mrs. Christian.” Then all of a sudden feelings of guilt or condemnation come rushing in over your thoughts. You have just been set on fire and if you continue meditating it, its goal is to burn you up and consume you completely.
The truth is that thought you had was a fiery dart not from you but from the wicked one. The enemy functions in the mental, soulish realm and he and his demonic companions love to dart ‘considerations’ of lust, evil, revenge, jealousy and other ungodly thoughts. The real issue is what is his intention with these thoughts. His first and foremost goal is to get you to think that those thoughts originated from YOU!!! If he is successful with that, then He will get you to focus on yourself and take the eyes of your mind and heart off of JESUS. The Word of God tells us to meditate The Word day and night, not our mistakes and missteps and bad or negative thoughts. When you meditate God’s Word it gets bigger and bigger. Bigger than your problems or situations or circumstances. The same thing happens when you meditate evil thoughts. They grow! Then they try to take over your thoughts and your thinking process until they become a stronghold.
But when you take the shield of faith. Faith in the Father, faith in Jesus and faith in the Holy Spirit then this quenches the fiery darts. The truth of The Word is like a fire extinguisher. When condemnation tries to come up because of a thought or action immediately your spirit prompts you to say, “There is no condemnation for me!! I am in Christ Jesus!!!” The fire and the dart fizzle and fade when confronted with The Word Who is Jesus because Jesus has already won the day on Calvary!!! So never allow the lies and fiery darts of satan to cause you concern. Declare, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!” and watch it fizzle in defeat while you triumph in victory with Jesus.
All the ‘blessed’ to you!!! Shalom!
