Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.  Galatians 3:13-14 King James Version

Redemption is such a beautiful word and act, especially when you dig into its origin and true meaning.  It  is a word and definition that every believer and unbeliever should know.  The word of Gods tells us in Psalms 107:2 to let the redeemed of the Lord say so.  But let’s look at another version of this scripture to give us more light.

Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story– those he redeemed from the hand of the foe Psalm 107:2 New International Version Let those who have been redeemed by the LORD declare it— those whom he redeemed from the power of the enemy, Psalm 107:2 International Standard Version

Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy; Psalm 107:2 King James Version Now I left the last version of Psalm 107:2  unbolded for a reason.  The King James Version is the version most believers are familiar with.  It says, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so…….”.  I want you to see that the word so is in italics which means it was not there originally but was added for clarity.  But it tends to take away from the true meaning.  When you take away the word ‘so’, it goes to a comma then makes another statement.  It’s almost like the Holy Ghost said, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say ___________, whom  He has redeemed from the power of the enemy.”  And really that is what is supposed to happen.  Now, God is the most purposeful being on the planet and He does not do anything without a reason or a purpose.  So in order for you to fill that blank in you would have to know what the Lord has redeemed you from specifically.  Now I know that the rest of the scripture says, “whom He has redeemed from the power of the enemy, however that is very general. Let me ask you, are the things that happen in your life that affect you the greatest very general or very specific?  In most cases they are very specific.  So when you know the things that you are redeemed from it gives you a greater level of boldness and confidence because when something happens you can quickly identify and say, “No I am redeemed from sickness!!”  Before we go into some of the things you are redeemed from we should first make sure we understand what the word redeemed means.  The word redeemed comes from the Hebrew word exagorazó which means to buy up, ransom, to rescue from loss.  It is actually two words the first being ek which means “completely out from” which intensifies agorázō which means to “buy-up at the marketplace”) – properly, take full advantage of, seizing a buying-opportunity, i.e. making the most of the present opportunity (recognizing its future gain). Let’s say you went to a car dealer and you heard they were going to stop selling GM Hummer H2’s (which they have).  Let’s say I am a billionaire with a strong affinity for Hummer H2’s and I decide I am going to buy every single H2 on the market that is in production.   Once I have done that, if someone shows up who wants to buy a Hummer H2 they cannot get one.  Why?  Because they have been bought completely off the market.  They are no longer available for purchase.  If someone desires one they have to come and see me and maybe I will sell them one for a small phenomenal fee. LOL.  Well this is what Jesus did when He redeemed us.  He bought us completely off of and out of the market of sin and death and all the things that are associated with it.  If the enemy wants a to buy a piece of you He has to go to Jesus and guess what?  JESUS AIN’T SELLING!!!      That means that sin, death, the curse and all the things that Jesus Christ has redeemed us from cannot affect you any longer legally.  Let’s revisit our opening text.

So we see here that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law.  The curse of the law involves three primary areas that include poverty, sickness and death.  So you are redeemed from poverty in all of its ways shapes and form which include lack and shortage.  You are redeemed from sickness and that means all sickness and all disease including germs and viruses.  Lets see what God the Father said about poverty and sickness so you can know what is yours.

The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want (the word want there means lack) Psalm 23:1 King James Version The LORD will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt,…….  Deuteronomy 7:15  New International Version He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you.”  Exodus 15:26 New Living Translation

Now please understand in the Old Testament, you had to be obedient in order for the Lord to bless and heal you and provide for you.   In the New Testament JESUS has fulfilled all the law for us and we get the benefit  of all that He has done.  Because Jesus was obedient, His obedience gets credited to our account just like His righteousness.  We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. On our own we have NO RIGHTEOUSNESS.  It is extremely important to understand what we just went over so that the enemy or a uninformed preacher does not talk you out of the finished work of Christ. Lastly Jesus has also redeemed you from death. Death here is eternal death or spiritual death which is eternal separation from God.  Death does not have any authority over you. Do you mean I can control when I die. YES you can!!  In Christ Jesus you already died and since you died once death has no authority or power over a dead person. Let me ask you this, if a mosquito with HIV bites a dead person, what affect will it have on that dead person?  NONE!! They are already dead.  Death gets it power through sin.   The Word of God says we have been freed from sin. I know it sounds crazy and spooky and ghostly but it’s not.  IT’S DA TRUTH!!!!

Knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.  Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.   Romans 6:6-9  New American Standard Bible

You may wanna read that again.  It’s a lotta TRUTH to digest.  You are IN CHRIST! Since Christ has been raised from the dead and you were raised with Him, He is never to die again and death no longer is master over Him and since you are in Him death is no longer master over YOU!! So you have been redeemed from the curse of the law of poverty, sickness and death in all of its ways shapes and forms. When I say all of its way, shapes and forms do you know what I mean?  You need to because death takes many shapes before it gets a person to the shape of laying still in a coffin.  Did you know that chronic fatigue is a form of death. Please don’t misunderstand me. I am not saying being tired is a form of death, Jesus Himself was tired at times and needed rest as we all do. I am talking about being tired all the time.  Waking up tired.  That’s a form of death. Something is constantly trying to sap a person’s energy.  But you know now that Christ has bought you out of that legally.  But legal rights must be exercised.  Let me ask you a question.  Is it illegal for people to break into other peoples homes?  Of course it is.  But do people still do it?  Yes!!  Same thing here.  You have a legal right to be free from sin and death everyday every single second of the day but the enemy will still try to come illegally and steal your health, life, energy, finances etc.. So what do you do?  You fill in the blank that we talked about earlier.  “Let the redeemed of the Lord say “I am redeemed from chronic fatigue!!! I am redeemed from debt and lack!!! I am redeemed from sickness and disease!!!”  Because your words are God’s Word, they must be obeyed. And you need to know that you are redeemed from destruction and terror.

Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;  Psalm 103:4  King James Bible Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.  Psalm 91: 5-7 King James Version

We will finish this up tomorrow. Don’t miss it because you need to know that there is not only somethings you have been redeemed from, but there is also somethings you have been redeemed to.

All the “blessed” to you!!! Shalom!

  1. Terrific post, Vincent! I really like the Hummer analogy. And you know, what you are explaining here always reminds me of Algebra…now math has never been a talent of mine – I mean never, but it doesn’t take an Einstein to understand that if A is = to B, and B is = to C, then A is = to C. I always think of our relationship through Christ to the Father in those terms.

    On to read yesterday’s…

    God bless you,
