For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law. Romans 10:3 New Living Translation
Righteousness is soooooooo awesome!!!! So wonderful!! God the Father and Jesus do not want us to miss out on this great gift (that’s right I said GIFT) of righteousness. Now someone may say, “If it’s so good why would anyone miss out on it?” They can miss out on it if they don’t know about it OR if they what they do know about righteousness is simply not true, This is what this scripture is talking about. Paul was talking about the children of Israel and how they had such a zeal for God but no zeal of faith in God’s way of making people righteous which is JESUS!!! The scripture goes on to say that they not only do not understand God’s way of making people right with Himself, but even after finding out they refuse to accept God’s way of making people right with Him. How did they do this? By trying to keep the law. By trying to live off of the ten commandments which the New Testament calls the ministration of death.
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: 2 Corinthians 3:7 King James Version
If there is any mistake about what is being talked about here then “written and engraven in stones” should clear it up. This scripture is saying that the ten commandments was glorious in its time, BUT that glory was to be done away with. Many people do not know this including many believers but it’s right there in The Word of God. The ten commandments were only for a period of time not forever. It was only in place until Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection which would usher in the Holy Spirit. Once that happened look at what the next verse of the above scripture says.
How shall not the ministration of the Spirit be rather(or more) glorious? 2 Corinthians 3:8 King James Version
The New Living Translation makes it even more clear.
Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life?
The scripture just gets better and better and clearer and clearer. Look at the next verse.
If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! 2 Corinthians 3:9 New Living Translation
Did you see what The Word of God just said? It said the ministry of the law, the ten commandments brought condemnation. CONDEMNATION KILLS!!!! Romans 8:1 tells us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. This scripture tells us that RIGHTEOUSNESS, what God did thru Jesus has greater glory!!! So what does all this have to do with people not understanding God’s way of making people right? EVERYTHING!!! When New Testament believers still try to judge themselves on how right or righteous they are by whether or not they keep the law of the ten commandments or whether they do everything just right, the Bible says that by living in this dispensation with the rules and laws of the old dispensation then they bring themselves under condemnation and death. Why? Because they are not going to be able to keep every single law and commandment. No one could except Jesus. Does this mean we go out and kill and steal and commit adultery? NO! This means that now that Christ is here, faith in Him and His finished work and the Holy Spirit lives in us now constrained us from these things but even if we did break those ten commandment laws our righteousness is intact because of what JESUS did, not us. We are credited with His righteousness. The Word of God declares CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW for all who believe. That law way of living was only temporary but the way of Christ is FOREVER!!! I did not say that The Word of God says that.
So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever! 2 Corinthians 3:11 New Living Translation
The old way is the way of the Old Testament or the way and manner people lived by at that time. The new way is the New Testament that includes a righteousness of faith. Faith in what the law? No!!! Faith in Jesus Christ and what He did at the cross. On the cross he said, “It is finished or accomplished!!” What you do or don’t do cannot add to your righteousness or take away from your righteousness because you did not do anything to obtain it in the first place. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus not the righteousness of God in yourself and your works. Don’t make the same mistake that Israel made and try to establish your own righteousness by saying, “I do this or I don’t do that.” Your righteousness is based on you accepting Jesus and His finished work and that all by itself.
All the “blessed” to you!!! Shalom!
